Case Study

Market Survey & Value Chain Analysis – RISE Balochistan

iCore Business Solutions conducted a comprehensive market systems assessment across Panjgur, Kharan, and Washuk to identify viable livelihood opportunities and inform evidence-based programme design for inclusive economic development.

Project Overview

  • Client: Balochistan Rural Support Programme (BRSP) – RISE Balochistan

  • Location: Panjgur, Kharan, Washuk

  • Project Type: Market Survey & Value Chain Analysis

  • Approach: Mixed-method field research and analytical modelling

Problem Statement

Remote districts lacked structured market intelligence, limiting the effectiveness of livelihood programmes. Key constraints included weak market linkages, lack of data on viable trades, and limited inclusion of women, youth, and persons with disabilities (PWDs)

Objectives

The project aimed to identify high-potential trades, assess demand and profitability, evaluate inclusion opportunities, and develop actionable recommendations for livelihood and enterprise development.

Scope of Work

The assignment covered district-level surveys, key informant interviews, focus group discussions, value chain mapping, and trade prioritisation using structured scoring models.

Approach & Methodology

iCore applied a data-driven approach using KoBoToolbox for field data collection, combined with KIIs and FGDs. Multi-criteria analysis was conducted based on demand, profitability, climate resilience, and scalability, with validation through pilot testing

Key Outputs

The project delivered district-wise market reports, prioritised trade lists, value chain analyses, and actionable recommendations for inclusive livelihood programming.

Impact & Results

The study enabled BRSP to design targeted interventions, improved understanding of local economies, and identified scalable livelihood opportunities aligned with market demand.

Key Insights

High fuel and transport costs were major barriers, several trades had demand but lacked structured supply chains, and inclusion of women and youth can be improved through home-based and skill-aligned enterprises.

Conclusion

The project transformed fragmented field data into structured insights, enabling more effective and inclusive economic development planning across underserved districts.
